Radio certificates
Radio certificates
The Telecommunications authority of Greenland issues the following radio certificates after an examination:
General operator certificate (GOC)
GOC certificates can be issued to persons who are 18 years of age or older.
The GOC certificate can be issued up to 5 years after passing the exam and is valid for 5 years from the date of issue. To renew the GOC certificate for a further 5 years, the holder must provide documentation of:
- 1) have served on seagoing GMDSS ships as a radio operator under conditions where such a certificate is required for at least 1 year within the previous 5 years,
- 2) have served on GMDSS seagoing ships as a radio operator under conditions where such a certificate is required for at least 3 months within the previous 6 months, or
- 3) having performed work which, in the opinion of the National Telecommunications Agency, can in each individual case be approved as equivalent to the service required under nos. 1 or 2.
For the reacquisition of a GOC certificate for a new 5-year period for persons who do not meet the requirements, the holder is required to pass a reacquisition test. Applications for taking an examination must be submitted to the Telecommunications Authority of Greenland.
Limited Radio Operator (ROC) Certificate
ROC certificates can be issued to individuals who have reached the age of 18. ROC certificates are issued with a validity of 5 years from the date of issue, after which it can be renewed for a new 5-year period upon application. Applications for taking an examination must be submitted to the Telecommunications Authority of Greenland together with a passport photo.
Certificate for operation of maritime VHF radio systems (SRC)
SRC certificates are issued to persons who have reached the age of 15. SRC certificates have an unlimited period of validity. Applications for taking an examination must be submitted to the Telecommunications Authority of Greenland together with a passport photo.
Certificate for operation of marine MF, HF and VHF radio systems (LRC)
LRC certificates can be issued to persons who are 16 years of age or older. LRC certificates have an unlimited validity period. Applications for taking an examination must be submitted to the Telecommunications Authority of Greenland together with a passport photo.
