Legislation

Below is the legislation for the telecommunications sector and for the radio sector: (mostly in greenlandic and danish)

The legislative framework

The Telecommunications Authority is Greenland's regulatory body for telecommunications and radio communications, operating under the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure. The Authority works according to Greenlandic telecommunications legislation, including Inatsisartut Act no. 31 of 28 November 2017 on telecommunications and teleservices, which constitutes the overarching legal basis for regulation of the telecommunications sector in Greenland. We supervise that telecom operators comply with applicable legislation, administer Greenland's radio frequencies, and support emergency and contingency communications at sea and on land. Our mission is to ensure that society's communication resources are utilised efficiently and for the benefit of all citizens in Greenland.

We regulate two interconnected sectors: telecommunications, which covers providers, services, satellite equipment and terminal equipment connection, as well as radio communications, covering frequency allocation, callsigns, MMSI numbers, maritime and aviation radio, land mobile radio services and radio certificates. The legislation below — including the Telecommunications Act, frequency regulations and radio regulations — forms the legal framework governing these sectors in Greenland. Most documents are available in Greenlandic and Danish. For the full and up-to-date legislative texts, please refer to Nalunaarutit.gl, Greenland's official law collection.
