As a citizen or business you can apply for a range of permits and callsigns to use radio equipment on land, at sea and in the air. Below is an overview of what we offer and what you can apply for.
What are the call sign and maritime identification number for ships?

What type application is this?
This application is an official form from Nalunaarasuartaateqarnermut Aqutsisut (Greenland's Telecommunications Authority) for applying for a license to use land mobile radio in Greenland. The form is called “Application for a land mobile radio license” and can also be used to apply for specific frequencies. It covers several types of applications, including:
- Setting up base stations (fixed installations).
- Mobile or portable stations (e.g., handheld radios or vehicle-mounted).
- Changes of existing stations
- Frequency applications (allocation of specific frequencies).
- Change of ownership (transfer of the permit to a new owner)
The application form requires information such as the applicant's name, CPR/GER number, address, radio make, type, transmission power, and desired frequencies. It also includes sections on where the station will be located or used (e.g., at a specific address, within an area, or in a larger geographical area). It must be signed with a declaration that the rules for operation and use will be complied with and sent to the authority by post or email (RFV@nanoq.gl).
Why do i need it?
- A land mobile radio license is required to legally use radio equipment for communication on land in Greenland. The license ensures:
- Frequency management: Radio frequencies are limited, and the authority allocates them to avoid interference with other users or critical services such as emergency communications.
- Compliance: According to Greenlandic, Danish, and international ITU regulations, radio equipment may not be used without a license (with a few exceptions for low-power devices).
- Practical and safety significance: In Greenland, radio is often crucial for expeditions, mining, fieldwork, taxis, and emergencies in areas without mobile coverage. Without a license, you risk fines, confiscation of equipment, or claims from authorities in connection with other activities.
